Let me shout this from the mountaintops:
Good people are brave.
Faithful people are brave.
Loving people are brave.
Patient people are brave.
Honest people are brave.
I believe that a good person can’t be good if he doesn’t have courage.
C.S. Lewis said courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.
Maya Angelou said the same thing in a different way. She said, “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.”
But what if you’re really afraid? Can you not be good?
Don’t misunderstand me.
Being brave doesn’t mean not being afraid. It means pressing on even if you’re afraid.
Here’s another powerful quote: “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.” –Ambrose Redmoon
The key to success? “Do it afraid.” The world needs more fearful people who will go ahead and do the right thing, anyway.
Will you be one of them?
