Take courage. These words captured last Sunday's gospel taken from Matthew 14:22-33. Sometimes we find ourselves powerless against various winds but it’s comforting that we don't have to go against them alone. Jesus always comes to our rescue. This message was further taken into heart as the Sunday feasters sung 'Counting on God'.
After Mass, we listened to the talk, “Why do Bad Things Happen to Good People?” Bro. Randy mentioned that in the beginning, God created everything as good and He entrusted mankind with free will, yet rebelled. Thus, we can no longer be promised that life can be a rose garden. But the talk gave 5 reasons for hope.
First, trials can bring us closer to God. We may have heard of Jesus but once we become desperate that we run to Him, we see Him with our heart. Second, our triumphs help others find God. They make people realize how faithful God is. Third, miracles happen when a mess is to be fixed. Fourth, our struggles bring out the best character in us so we can be more like Jesus. Bro. Randy shared that God cares about what happens to you, but He cares more about what happens in you; because that determines how He will work through you. Fifth, bad things remind us that we're not yet home. We are only here as pilgrims; being with God in heaven is our ultimate prize, our ultimate home.
We are encouraged to run to God, hold on to His family, and anchor ourselves to His promises if we are to breakthrough. If we open our hearts to Him, we can see beyond the waves and see the wind. We are to constantly invite Jesus then to come to our boats. For sure, we'll no longer be asking why bad things happen, but testify how they made your best, better.
